What a cultural center in Novy Podil might look like: results of the STEEL FREEDOM competition

The cultural center in Novy Podil is a place of strength, talent and inspiration. This is a space where you can meet the frontman of your favorite band, listen to an open-air concert and get insight for a new production in the theater. Here on 1 m² there will be an incredible concentration of creative people.

We want the cultural center in Novy Podil to be a special place, so it is important for us to involve real talents in its creation, learn different visions of its architecture and choose the best project. This is exactly the opportunity we got thanks to the Steel Freedom Architecture Festival.

Steel Freedom holds a competition among students of specialized universities. The main task of the participants is to offer an original conceptual solution that demonstrates a modern, innovative approach to the use of steel in construction.

This year's Steel Freedom Architecture Festival broke records in both the number of participants and the number of entries. 135 registered teams, 14 universities, 84 projects and 74 semi-finalist teams, 30 projects of which were developed for the cultural center of our region.

After several stages of selection, a jury of well-known architects from different cities of Ukraine and experts in the construction industry chose three winners.

The first place was taken by Elena Meleshko, a student of the Kiev National University of Construction and Architecture. According to the jury, her project most of all corresponds to the concept of our district, its architectural and constructive forms and has an original, expressive and innovative idea.

The second place by the number of votes from the jury was also won by the team of the Kiev National University of Construction and Architecture. Daniil Bachinsky, Alexey Avramenko, Diana Garkavenko, Artem Gromov and curator Irina Leonidovna Kravchenko worked on the development of the project for the cultural center of Novy Podil.

The third place was taken by students of the National University "Lviv Polytechnic" - Vladimir-Maksim Nagornyak, Anastasia Kalinichenko, Ivan Andreiko and curator Leonid Ivanovich Voznyuk.

After getting acquainted with all the competition works, we definitely agree with the coordinator of the competition Andriy Rymarenko: "STEEL FREEDOM is a community of active young professionals who, in a few years, will decide the fate of cities and create iconic objects in Ukraine and the world."

Our goal is to change the city for the better, so we are always open to cooperation with talented architects who share our values and approaches to project development.
